To go above and beyond what students learned inside the classroom, FEB UIII sent five international students to partake in the 3rd International Short Course (ISC) held by FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga from November 7th to 9th. Other than some Indonesian students from UMY and UIN as the attendants, 40 others were coming from Bangladesh, Yemen, Zambia, and the Kyrgyz republic. Representing from UIII are Safiullah Junejo from Pakistan, Rasheed from Afghanistan, Samsam Ismail from Somalia, Prabanshu Sharma from India, and Issa Hamadou from Cameroon. Under the theme “Growing and Strengthening the Global Halal Ecosystem: Recover Together, Recover Stronger,” this five-day course supplied various sub-topics for the students, such as strategy to support economic recovery from the pandemic, Islamic social finance for sustainability, the payment system in the digital era, digital financial inclusion & SME finance, chief supply chain officer at paragon technology & innovation, etc.

This activity is deemed vital to increase the competency of human resources in Sharia economics and to excel in the extent of collaboration between Sharia economics institutes locally and globally. Islamic economics ought to have a great deal of contribution to actualize the value of economic growth via Islam tenets. The halal ecosystem should be highly considered and developed to have international quality standards which hence could be exemplary lifestyles, aiming to be a potential global trend.

Dean of FEB UIII, Prof. Dian Masyita, was also invited as the speaker, illustrating Digital Financial Inclusion & SME Finance as a measure to harness open banking for incentivizing productivity and supporting the inclusive economy and financing for the underserved community. She encouraged students to assimilate all course materials while entirely using this opportunity to make a network and collaboration with other participants. At the end of the agenda, all participants enjoyed the campus tour, sightseeing halal industries, and tourism spots around the Yogyakarta region.
