PKM: Training for Trainers and Community Engagement Program FEB UIII | Tim: Prof. Dian Masyita dan tim FEB UIII

Community engagement requires more than good intention. It requires method, communication skills, ethical awareness, and the ability to understand what communities actually need. Through the Training for Trainers and Community Engagement Program, the Faculty of Economics and Business at UIII strengthened the capacity of participants to design and deliver social programs with greater care and effectiveness.

The program involved a broad team from FEB UIII and was designed to prepare participants who could later share knowledge with wider groups. Training for Trainers is important because it creates a multiplier effect. Participants do not only receive material; they learn how to communicate it, adapt it, and facilitate learning in different community settings.

In community engagement, the ability to listen is as important as the ability to teach. The activity therefore points to a more participatory model of service, where communities are not treated as passive objects but as partners with local knowledge, constraints, and aspirations. Trainers need to understand group dynamics, cultural sensitivity, and the importance of evaluation.

For UIII, this program strengthened the internal ecosystem of community service. Universities can only produce sustainable social impact when lecturers, students, and staff are equipped with practical capacities to work with communities. The program also fits the Tri Dharma mandate, particularly the responsibility of higher education institutions to contribute to society.

A feature article can highlight the energy of the training room, the diversity of participants, and the way the program prepared future facilitators. It should be completed with information on training modules, dates, number of participants, and follow-up activities. The core message is that strong community engagement begins with people who know how to learn with communities, not merely speak to them.
