In commemorating Indonesian Tree Planting Day, UIII made a collaboration with the Depok City government, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), and the Depok City Environment and Sanitation Services (DLHK) planting approximately 1.000 trees in the UIII campus area. In his welcoming remark, Prof. Dr. Komaruddin Hidayat, the rector of UIII stated that UIII aims to be a green campus to elevate the physical and mental health of the students and create more positive engagement on a daily basis. He added that refining the capacity for knowledge retention, environmental awareness, and community solidarity could be achieved by sustaining the environment surrounding the campus.

Global climate change should be the concern of academia by integrating education research concepts with community service in the management of the environment around the campus. To achieve this grand objective, he affirmed that soon, 5,600 trees will be planted. Closing his remarks, he emphasized that this contribution would benefit indirectly in overcoming environmental problems, especially air pollution as the carbon absorption area in Depok city.
