MFin Students Gain Firsthand Insights into Carbon Trading at IDX Carbon - Faculty of Economics and Business

Jakarta, February 26, 2025 – Eight Students of Master of Finance on Sustainable Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Business at UIII participated in an exclusive site visit to the IDX Carbon, Indonesia’s premier carbon trading platform. This visit, led by M.Fin lecturers Dr. Istiana Maftuchah and Dr. Hanafi Sofyan Guciano, was part of their Clean Energy and Carbon Trading course, designed to enhance their understanding of the rapidly evolving carbon market and its impact on sustainable finance.

The event provided students with firsthand insights into carbon trading mechanisms, market regulations, and the role of IDX Carbon in facilitating Indonesia’s carbon credit transactions. The visit also featured an interactive session led by experts from IDX Carbon, where students explored topics such as carbon pricing strategies, market dynamics, and the potential of carbon trading in achieving net-zero emissions.

As part of the visit, the students engaged in discussions on Indonesia’s carbon market landscape and the integration of financial instruments to support the transition to a low-carbon economy. They also had the opportunity to witness live trading simulations, giving them a practical understanding of how carbon credits are bought and sold in the market.

To recognize their participation, each student received a Certificate (SPE-GRK), acknowledging their engagement in the site visit and their commitment to deepening their knowledge of carbon trading and sustainable finance. The students were Abdul Saboor and Auns Azhar from Pakistan, Mohammad Jawid Marwat from Afghanistan, Ayuba Jobarteh from Gambia, as well as Abdurrahman Faqih Mukhlis, Fahmi Aulia Rahman, Octari Nabila Yestri, and Syamsi Mustofa Singgih Prayogo from Indonesia.

“This visit to IDX Carbon has been an eye-opening experience for us. It has provided us with valuable insights into the intersection of finance and sustainability, reinforcing the importance of carbon trading in mitigating climate change,” said one of the students.

The site visit reflects the growing emphasis on carbon trading as a critical component of Indonesia’s sustainability efforts. Through this initiative, students are better equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of carbon finance and contribute to the country’s green economy agenda.

As carbon trading gains momentum globally, academic institutions and industry players continue to collaborate in providing students with real-world exposure to sustainable finance practices. The visit to IDX Carbon marks a significant step in bridging theoretical learning with practical applications in the field of carbon trading and environmental finance.
